Getting Your Feedly Up & Running Transcript:

Hi there and welcome to the tutorial on how to get your Feedly set up.

Alright, so first off when you come to the Feedly website, you want to make

sure that you're setting up just the free account, OK. No need for the premium

account, just the free one will work perfectly.

Once you do that, you're going to come to this page and you're going to see

down the side that you have Feeds and you have the option of adding folders.

I've already added an Advertising and Sports, and you can create up to one

more folder using the free version. So, since we can do that and I like to stay

quite organized, I'm going to add another folder and I'm going to put

Festivals. OK, and we'll click save.

From here, you can click in any of your folders, and then you're going to click

follow website. You want to make sure you're following websites and the

reason for this is because these websites or, what would be publications or

whatnot, are going to be posting current information regularly and that's what

you want to follow. Then once you find an article you really like that they've

posted, you can always flag it or bookmark it if you will. But nonetheless, you

want to follow the websites.

So you can see that there are a bunch of industries, trends, skills, fun all listed

here, OK. You can even type in different ones which I will get to in a second.

But first off you see that I have Advertising so I'm going to click on the

advertising one, and see what it has here? Now it has some starter kits. So

starter kits include a variety of resources that Feedly has essentially already

curated for you, so you can choose to follow them all and they'll get added

into your folder here, or you may want to pick and choose, so click into each

of them, learn a little bit more about them, and then decide if you want to add

it, OK. Otherwise, you can go through them individually here.

I like Smashing Magazine, so I'm going to just type that in and see what

comes up so you can see for Smashing magazine it brings us to the YouTube

channel, their magazine for designers and developers, and their blog, so it

brings us to a variety of different elements of Smashing Magazine. So, I could

add all of them or I can add just the ones that I want to follow. OK, so for here

I'll just add…maybe these top two. In reality, I would want to go into them and

learn a little bit more about them, but I'll just add that top one in there.

OK, now I also like typography. I like to know what's going on in that world.

So, I'll type that topic in, and you can see that a variety of resources pop up for

me here. OK, I'm familiar with this website, so I'm going to go ahead and

follow and put it in my Advertising folder so you can see that it's growing.

Now when I click on Advertising, you're going to see that this is what's coming

up underneath these two resources that I'm following.

OK, if I wanted to add more to this folder once I've already started this

process, you would come to the left side and you're going to see that you

have different options here. So, you click on this little icon. It's going to take

you back to this screen that's searchable.

OK, so let's see, if we go to festivals or sports when we click on follow

websites, there isn't already a subject here for sports or festivals for that

matter, so that's what I'm going to type in this in the search, so I'll click Sports.

They too have a starter kit and then they have, you know, ESPN, Bleacher

Report, Deadspin… You name it they have it here, so you can choose ala carte

if you will, for the ones that you'd like to add, or you can go to their starter kit

and peruse them and say, actually, I'd like to follow all of them, so I'll follow all

or I will just pick and choose the ones that I'd like. OK, so for argument's sake

I'm going to follow them all so we can fill up some of these folders, OK, and

then follow.

I'm going to type in Festivals, to see what comes up. We have a bunch of

music ones that come up right off the bat and we can scroll down. EDM the

whole nine are here, Variety. So, this sounds like something. I trust the Variety

brand. That's a reputable name in the entertainment world so I may want to

follow this one and put it under Festivals. OK, Rolling Stones. Same thing. Put

that under my festivals. That could also go under Entertainment or Music if

you wanted to have different ones here.

OK, so this is where you're going to be building all of those resources that

allow you to stay on the pulse of what's happening in the industries that are

important to you. And this is also where you'll be adding your 10 resources to

be able to show your classmates what it is that you'd like to share with them

for this particular activity, all right. Make sure you're diving into each of these

so you get to know each of your resources and the articles that they provide

and the information that they provide. All right, if you have any questions,
